Third Meeting of Advisory Council on Foreign Affairs held in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, MAR 13 (DNA) – The Advisory Council on Foreign Affairs under the Chairmanship of Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi held at the Foreign Ministry. This was the third meeting of the Advisory Council.

The Advisory Council reviewed recent developments and discussed Pakistan’s efforts for peace and stability in the region.

In his comments, the Foreign Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and highlighted the overtures by the Prime Minister of Pakistan to de-escalate tensions across the Line of Control.

The return of the Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan to India was a reflection of Pakistan’s constructive approach, he said.

In addition, the Foreign Minister referred to the recent measures for de-escalation taken by the Government of Pakistan—the return of the Pakistan High Commissioner to New Delhi after the completion of consultations, the sending of a delegation on 14 March 2019 to discuss a draft agreement on the Kartarpur Corridor, and the commitment to continue weekly contacts at the Military Operations Directorate level —all effectively showed Pakistan’s positive intent.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that Pakistan will continue to extend all possible diplomatic, moral, and political support to Kashmiris in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The Foreign Minister welcomed the contribution of the members of the Advisory Council which notably includes former senior diplomats and academics.

The fourth meeting of the Council will be held in April.
