Serena hosts a fundraising evening, ‘Urdu hai jis ka naam’

ISLAMABAD, JUN 21 (DNA) – Serena Hotels in collaboration with Bestway Cement Ltd Pakistan’s largest cement manufacturer, hosted a fundraising evening titled, ‘Urdu hai jis ka naam’ for Mashal Association in Islamabad Serena Hotel on Thursday.

Alongside being market leaders in their own respective businesses Bestway and Serena ardently support, projection and promotion of the opulent culture and traditions of Pakistan.

The audience got a true flavor of the richness of the Urdu language through narration of select pieces by Taimur Rehman.

Taimur’s repertoire included authors like IsmatChughtai, Mir Taqi Mir, Mushtaq Yusafi and many others.

Dressed in traditional clothes and seated against a ‘gao-takia’, he wove magic with words while taking the audience through a whole gamut of emotions.

He was accompanied at places by Sitar player Wajeeh and table Nawaz Irfan.

 

Mashal Association, founded by the late Shahida Ejaz Azim in 1988, is an NGO involved with benefitting under-privileged women and girls and empowering them through education, employability and entrepreneur skills.

All the proceeds from the event went towards building classrooms and a science laboratory at a school for under-privileged girls.

The fundraiser evening was well attended by luminaries and notables of the Twin Cities, including senior government officials Mr. Fawad Chaudhary (Minister for Science and Technology), Mr Asad Umar(Chairman of the Standing Committee of National Assembly on Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs and Mr. Shafqat Mehmood (Minister for Education).=DNA
