LAHORE, JAN 17 (DNA) – Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has imposed a ban on the sale of bottled water from three renowned companies on failing to meet quality standards.

The authority banned bottled water products from the following companies:

Aquafina
Kinley
Springley

In a previous survey, Aquafina was the only brand which was declared fit for human consumption by the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA).

The PFA authorities, in the recent survey, collected samples of 14 companies to check the quality. The companies included in testing;

Aquafina
Sufi
Kinley
Aqua Safe
Blu Water
Sparkle
Kinz
Naimat
Bottle Water
Pure Drinking Water
Nestle Pure Life
Murree Sparkletts
Zam Zam
Springley

The samples were sent to Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research for testing where not a single company could meet the standards set for ‘mineral water’.

However, out of these 14, only 11 passed the test to be labeled as ‘Plain or Safe water’ and given permission to sell their products in the market.

The three companies Aquafina, Kinley and Springley have been barred from selling their bottled water after finding germs and chemicals, injurious to human health.

The PFA has ordered the banned companies to call back their stock from the market and stop production.

The PFA said that these companies will be allowed to resume production on improving their quality, adding that the factories will be sealed if they failed the test again.

The authority has also collected samples from several private and goverment hospitals and their results yet to be announced.
