Constitution Day of Norway celebrated

ISLAMABAD, MAY 12 (DNA)- Ambassador of Norway Tore Nedrebo  hosted a reception at his residence to celebrate the Constitution Day. The day is observed on May 17 however due Ramazan the embassy decided to celebrate the day before Ramazan.

Nicely dressed children of Leif Larsen music centre from Hunza presented mesmerizing performances.  They sang songs both in Urdu and their own language and got huge applause from the audience.

The music centre was named after Leif Larsen, the former Ambassador of Norway who lost his life in helicopter crash three years ago in Naltar.

Ambassador of Norway Tore Nedrebo in his speech said, the Norwegian Constitution was adopted in 1814, establishing the sovereignty of the Norwegian people and leading to our independence from Denmark.

It was one of the most liberal constitutions in Europe at the time and today it is the foundation of our democracy, rule of law and human rights.

The ambassador said relations between Norway and Pakistan are close and cordial. Bilateral trade is growing. Mobile Telephone Company Telenor is the biggest European investment in Pakistan.

Pakistan is also important country to Norway because of Pakistani Diaspora living in Norway and making people to people relations between the two countries even stronger.

The ambassador added, it is an honour for him to serve in Pakistan as Norwegian ambassador for last three years.

He said, elections are coming up in Pakistan and I think free, fair and timely elections will be crucial for future of Pakistan and peace and stability in the region.

Another hallmark of the event was that there was no ministerial chief guest and Ambassador of Norway cut the cake together with young children from Hunza.=DNA
