Nanbais hint at rising naan, roti prices in Lahore

 LAHORE, JULY 12 (DNA) – The Lahore Nanbai Association has on Friday hinted at rising naan and roti [traditional breads] prices after imposition of the General Sales Tax (GST).

According to details, the nanbais [bakers] have declared that the rates will be surged on Monday if the government does not withdraw the GST. The price of roti and naan will be Rs15 and Rs20 after the hike.

The price of the 80kg sack of flour is likely to be increased by Rs550. An angry outburst from the people followed afterwards as the mases said the government has made it difficult for them to surviv

The business community maintained that the government’s attitude and flurry of taxes have forced them to hike rates. However, Punjab Minister for Industries and Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal claimed that the government is not increasing the prices of naan and roti.

On the other hand, the district administration of Peshawar surrendered to nanbai association and fixed the price of roti at Rs10 and naan at Rs15. Furthermore, the rate of 190 gram roti will be Rs15 in urban areas whereas 185 gram roti will be sold for Rs15 in Hayatabad.

The nanbai association called off strike after successful negotiations with the administration. = DNA
