Franco-German music festival provides a real feast to music lovers

ISLAMABAD – Ambassador of France Marc Barety and Ambassador of Germany Martin Kobler jointly organized Franco-German musical  concert to celebrate the centennial of the end of the World War I and inauguration of a music festival the Stradivaria Quintet.

Ambassador of France in this regard arranged musical concert at his residence to formally introduce the musicians and provide the audience with a chance to enjoy mesmerizing performances. Hashoo Group has sponsored the music festival.IMG-20181020-WA0006

Ambassador of France Marc Barety while speaking on the occasion said on May 7th 2018, the ministers of foreign affairs of France and Germany signed an ambitious joint statement aiming at boosting further our bilateral cooperation in third countries.

As we celebrate the centennial of the end of World War I, the will to strengthen our bilateral ties in especially meaningful. It is even more so in this region, South Asia where conflicts and tensions between neighbours are a sad reality, he added.

The ambassador further said, culture is  a privileged field of Franco-German cooperation and music is its heart. Following the avice of one of the famous French writers, Victor Hugo, that Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent” or both embassies in Islamabad have organized a musical tour.

The musical tour will start in Islamabad, then Peshawar on the 22 October, to continue in Lahore on the 24th and end in Karachi on October 26th, the ambassador added.IMG-20181020-WA0007

This is the instrumental ensemble” Stradivaria” under the direction of Daniel Cuilller, leader and violinist of international renown. This ensemble specializes in 17th and 18th century baroque and classic music and performed for the first time in Pakistan.

The ambassador hoped that Pakistan and international audience will enjoy this musical tour because –as German composer Ludwig van Beethoven used to say” Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy”.

The ambassador of Germany Martin Kobler also spoke on the occasion and expressed similar views. He termed the Franco-German musical initiative a landmark step and hoped both embassies would continue to work hand in hand even in the days to come.

The hosts also appreciated cooperation of the sponsors especially the Hashoo Group which welcomed the guests at Peal Continental and Marriott Hotels. The Alliance francaise of Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, Anne-Marie Shcimmel in Lahore and the Goethe Institute in Karachi also extended their full cooperation to make the event a complete success.

Five musicians performed in the music festival including Daniel Cuiller, Francois Costa, Alain Pegeot, Thomas Luks and Benjamin Lesscoat.

 

Daniel Cuiller is a violinist by training. His artistic qualities, very quickly noticed b the classical milieu, allowed him to proceed on his personal initiative towards historical repertoires-combination of playing old musical instruments, applied research, diffusion and record production.

Francois Costa started by studying modern violin at the CNR of Marseille with Jean Ter Merguerian. He won Gold Meal awarded by Prix d la Ville and was encouraged and appreciated by the violinist Zino Francesscatti.

Alain Pegeot violin with, among others, Francoise Roure-Chouteeau and Amy Flammer and has obtained the first Prix des Conservatoires of Nevers, Rueil Malmaison and Gennevilliers.

He discovered with passion early music and Styplistics wrok on instruments of the era. Daniel Cuiller, CNR Paris and Phillippe Couvert guided him in such pursuits.

Thomas Luks studies at the Royal conservatory of Music in Brussels. He was a student of Roel Dieltiens (cello) and of Paul Dombrecht. He specialized in baroque cello with Lidewij Shceifes in Amsterdam and during various master classes with Bruno Cocset.

Born in Picardy, Benjamin Lescoat began his musical studies with a happy coincidence with viola at the Conservatory of Amiens. After having distinguished himself in many disciplines in France, Rueil-Malmaison and Paris, and traveled all over the world with the Philharmonic Orchestra of France, Orquesta Sinfonica de Galicia and Orchestre de Picardy,he went to Brussels where he graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
