MANCHESTER, APR 11 (DNA) – Pakistani-origin Dr. Robina Shah has been named as the next high sheriff of Greater Manchester, United Kingdom after approval of Queen Elizabeth II.

Robina is a Chartered Psychologist and Senior Lecturer at Manchester Medical School, University of Manchester.

The senior lecturer’s name was ‘personally’ marked by Queen Elizabeth II from a parchment called the Lites which is presented to her each year with names of those recommended to become high sheriffs for the coming year.

“I am truly honored and humbled to be appointed by her majesty the Queen to take the role of High Sheriff. It is a huge privilege to be the custodian of this historic public service role and I promise to serve the people of Greater Manchester with dignity, humility, and sincerity throughout my year of office,” Dr. Shah said.

Dr. Shah is the first woman of Pakistani origin to be presented with such honor.

Robina holds many national leadership roles including The Standing Commission on Carers, Department of Health; member of the Independent Cross- Government Advisory Group on Hate Crime, Ministry of Justice; Member of the RCGP Trustee Board and the UK Chair of the RCGP Patients and Carers Partnership Group. She is also a member of the Commitment to Carers Oversight Strategic Group at NHS England.

As a high sheriff, Robina’s key role will be to support and represent the Crown and the judiciary and also work with the police, emergency services, probation, prison services and voluntary sector organizations.

Dr. Robina Shah will be officially installed as The High Sheriff of the region on 12 April in a ceremony at the University’s Whitworth Hall.
