Court turns down Imran Khan’s exemption plea in SSP torture case

ISLAMABAD, APR 25 (DNA) – Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday has dismissed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan’s exemption from hearing plea in Senior Superintendent Asmatullah Junejo torture case.

During the hearing, Justice Shahrukh Arjumand directed Imran Khan to appear in the court in personal capacity so that reserved verdict on his acquittal plea can be announced.

Earlier, the court had granted pre-arrest bail to Khan in cases pertaining to the attack on SSP, Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) and parliament buildings as well as a violation of the loudspeaker act on September 1, 2014.

It is to be mentioned here that on August 1, 2014, PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) staged a record 104-day sit-in in Islamabad against alleged rigging in the 2013 election and the Model Town tragedy.

The case was registered against Khan, Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chairman Tahirul Qadri for spreading anarchy among their supporters.
