Chinese nationals become victims of visa extension fraud in Karachi
KARACHI, MAR 27, (DNA) – In a case pertaining to fraud in extension of Chinese citizens’ visas, it has been revealed that Director Passports in Karachi Khalid Memon and the Federal Ministry of Interior’s assistant Ramzan have collected bribes worth millions of rupees within few years.
This was revealed by Ramzan, a front man of the accused.
The probe revealed that Chinese nationals were being charged between Rs 10,000 and Rs 30,000 to get their visas extended, whereas, visitors from the neighboring country have been exempted from visa extension fee under the law.
Both accused also extended visas of Afghan nationals by taking bribes.
Front man of the accused stated that estimated amount collected during this illicit practice was around one crore rupees (Rs 10 million) every month.
On the other hand, the FIA has obtained data of more than one thousand visa extension cases and details of Interior Ministry official Wajid’s bank accounts.
Raids are being conducted in different areas to nab Khalid Memon.=DNA
