Argentina to enhance trade and agro-tech opportunities with Pakistan

The Embassy of the Argentine Republic organized a commercial event in Lahore to promote bilateral relationships with Pakistan in the fields of agriculture, pharma industry and tourism.

 

Distinguished members of the local business community participated in the event to share Argentina`s experience and know-how in agriculture, livestock, pharma, energy and tourism fields at the Royal Palm Golf Country Club of Lahore, in an event organized by the Embassy of the Argentine Republic.

 

The Chairman of the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade, Mr. Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, the President of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr. Ashraf Malik, the Vice President of the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Muhammad Irfan Sohail, the Chairman of All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association, Mr. Muhammad Pervez Lala, the Secretary General of the Seed Association of Pakistan, Mr. Salman Aziz Khan, as well as soya importers and textile, pharma and sugar mills representatives took part in the event to strengthen trade relations between Argentina and Pakistan.

 

Prof. Dr. Asif Ali, Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture of Multan, Dr. Abid Mahmood Director General of the Ayub Agricultural Research Institute of Faisalabad and Dr. Shahid Afghan CEO of the Sugarcane Research and Development Board of Punjab underscored the need to increase the technological exchange with Argentina in order to improve the agroindustrial complex of Pakistan.

 

During 2018 bilateral trade between both countries was 140 million dollars. Argentina exported to Pakistan 90 million dollars mainly in agroindustrial products such as soya bean oil, soya meal, chickpeas, sorghum grain, pharmaceuticals products and polo horses. On the other hand, Argentina imported close to 50 million dollars in textiles, cotton, sports accessories and medical equipment.

 

In his presentation, Head of the Consular and Commercial Section, Mr. Alejandro Anibal Garcia highlighted potential fields of cooperation for Pakistan to expand its exports, improve its agroindustrial technology as well as promote tourism. Argentina can go for joint ventures in agriculture, pharmaceutics, alternative energy (hydropower) and vehicles production.
